The Hebrew language will not be recognized as the official language of the Jews in the state of Mesopotamia, according to a decision of the Constitutional Commission of the Mesopotamian National Assembly, says a report published in the Arab paper, “Al Iraq.”
The paper prints the text of the memorandum of the Constitutional Commission, in connection with the ratification of the Anglo-Iraq treaty. The memorandum makes the following reference to the Jews and the Hebrew language in Mesopotamia: “In the different cities, the language of the Jews is Arabic. Hebrew is only the religious language, used for prayers and studied by the little children in their schools.
