South African Jews Lead in Contributions to Rebuilding of Palestine

The largest per capita contribution of any Jewish community in the world for the rebuilding of Palestine, has been made by the Jews of South Africa, according to a report just issued by the headquarters of the Keren Hayesod in the United States. The report is based on communications received from Dr. Alexander Goldstein, who has just finished a campaign for the Keren Hayesod in the union of South Africa, in the course of which he raised 60,000 pounds, which amounts to one pound for every Jewish inhabitant of that country. It is estimated that with the same per capits contribution, the United States should raise for the Keren Hayesod over $17,000,000 annually.

A feature of the campaign conducted by Dr. Goldstein, who, it will be recalled, addressed numerous meetings for the Keren Hayesod in the United States two years ago, was that there ##ere virtually no pledges, all contributions being accompanied either by cash or by negotiable notes. Dr. Goldstein, after completing his work in South Africa, visted the Jewish communities of Bulawayo, Salisbury and Livingstone in Rhodesia.
