Ukrainian Soviet Government Approves Jewish Colonization Plan

The Soviet Republic of Ukrainia has given its official approval to the plan for Jewish colonization on a large scale in the Ukraine and the Crimea. The approval was in the form of a resolution adopted today by the Soviet here, reading as follows:

“Whereas, as a result of the persecution of the former Czaristic regime, which prevented the Jews from settling on the land and occupying themselves with agriculture, the Jewish population is in an extraordinary social and economic position; whereas, there is now available 800,000 desiatin of the best land, which is not being cultivated; whereas, the commencement of a large colonization in this uncultivated region is an urgent necessity for the economic welfare of the entire country, be it.

‘RESOLVED that the Soviet Republic of Ukraine take steps, in conjunction with the Federal Government at Moscow, to make it possible for the economically ruined Jewish population in the cities to settle down on the uncultivated land in Southern Ukrainia and Northern Crimea; be it also.

“RESOLVED that the question of the funds necessary for this colonization plan be taken up with the Moscow Government, and with the Jewish organizations abroad who are active in the Soviet Republics.”
