The advisability of women preaching in synagogues was discussed yesterday at a meeting of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of Temple Israel.
Mrs. Albert J. May, of Flushing, L.I., a daughter of the late Isaac M. Wise, for many years president of the Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati, and the Rev. Dr. Maurice H. Harris, rabbi of the temple, spoke. Mrs. May said her father advocated preaching by women as long ago as 1870. Dr. Harris said that there was no reason, theoretically, why women should not preach in the synagogue, but that there were reasons why it might not be practical.
