The decision by the Turkish Government to abolish the Caliphate and to suppress religious instructions in the schools of the country have resulted in much comment on the part of the British press, which refers to the Anglora Government’s move as a shock to Pan-Islam. There is much speculation as to effect of the decision on India and other Mohammedan countries. Little doubt is expressed here that the Calphate will go to another Moslem country, probably Arabia. King Hussein of Hedjas who is known to be desirous of attaining the Caliphate, is now considered unsuitable in view of political and other reasons.
