The statement of the Jewish Colonization Association with regard to the Canadian Government’s cancellation of the unused 2,000 visa for stranded Jewish refugees was confirmed today by the Canadian Commissioner General of Immigration, in an interview here with the representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
“The Canadian Government has granted special privilege to these refugees. waiving the ordinary immigration regulations, on philanthropic grounds.” the Commissioner General stated. “Canada has no particular attitude towards Jewish refugees. Canada wishes only farm workers as immigrants, but it makes no discrimination on grounds of race or religion and has no preference for the “nordic” race. There is no difference in Canadian regulations for any people.
“The people to whom the remaining visas were refused were not actual refugees. The visas were not refused because they were Jews, but because the special Ica privileges are not extended to emigrants, and the ordinary immigration regulations must be applied to them”, he concluded.
