The American Federation of Labor which conducted a vigorous campaign against liberal immigrations into the United States and endorsed the recent anti-immigration bills. will lend its support towards admitting into this country a number of stranded refugees who hold American visas, according to a letter received by Mr. B. C. Vladeck, general manager of the “Forward” and member of the Hias delegation to Europe, from Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Labor.
Mr. Vladeck appeared before the Executive Council of the American Federation of Labor and applied to the American union leaders on behalf of the stranded refugees. The Executive Council instructed President Gompers to take the necessary steps with the State and Labor Departments. It is expected that the matter will be taken up in the form of a special resolution which will be introduced at the next session of Congress.
Similar action was taken by the Congress at its last session, a emitting those immigrants who had left the shores of Europe before the new immigration bill came into effect.
