The Jews came to Germany with the Roman legions, when Germany was still a primeval forest and marsh land, according to Dr. Julins Rothok who expressed this opinion after a study of the first records of Jewish settlement in Germany.
According to the records the Jews were already resident along the Rhine and the Danube in the first century and in Cologue there was a considerable Jewish colony within the first century. In the tenth and eleventh centuries large Jewish communities were formed in Southern Germany and in Saxony.
