The confiscation of a synagogue for the accommodation of the local Soviet is reported in despatches received here from Poltava.
A dispute concerning this temple has been going on for the last few years between the local Jewish section of the Communist party and the temple board, the Communists demanding that the temple be converted into a Communist school.
The authorities have now reached a compromise and the synagogue will not be turned into a Communist school, but will be used for the accommodation of the local Soviet.
The Jewish Communist press displays great indignation at the discovery that the government of Buriat, the Mongolian Soviet Republic, is supporting the local Hebrew schools, in accordance with the demands of the parents. The Central Burean of the Jewish Section of the Communist Party intervened in the matter, demanding that the Hebrew schools be discontinued and Yiddish schools be introduced instead.
