Roumanian Senate Invalidates Election of Jewish Senator

The election of Mr. Elijah Mendelsohn to the Roumanian Senate was declared invalid by a vote in the Senate which took place yesterday. The decision was taken by a vote of 130 against 25. Rabbi Zirelson, representing Bessarabia, in the Senate, took part in the discussion.

The election of Mr. Mendelsohn to the Senate by the Federation of Roumanian Chambers of Commerce, defeating the candidate of Prime Minister General Averescu, caused indignation in various governmental circles. It was stated that the Minister of Trade intended to dissolve the Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Mendelsohn is the chairman of the Zionist Organization in Jassy.
