Property owners outside of Florida need have no fear of suffering losses in real estate in Miami, acting Mayor Gilman stated today in an interview granted to the representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

“The spirit of optimism which built our city up to now still prevails. Miami captains of industry and home builders are planning for a greater and more magnificent Miami. Our Miami Jews,” Acting Mayor Gilman continued. “have generously contributed to relief work, donating money, food and clothing.”

The Jewish youth also played an active part, the girls nursing and the boys keeping order under police supervision. Many prominent Jewish citizens, including Rabbi Jacob Kaplan, are active in the Citizens’ Relief Committee organized under the Red Cross. All Jewish relief cases entering the Red Cross are being turned over to the Jewish members with special authorization to satisfy the Jewish needs with regard to Kosher food. Needy Jews who desire Kosher food take their Red Cross meal tickets to Kosher restaurants where they get food on the Red Cross account. No Kosher kitchen was organized because the number of Jews asking for food is very small.

Many Jewish families are appealing for constructive relief to restore their damaged homes.

An appeal for a constructive fund for the Miami stricken Jews will be issued by the special Jewish Relief Committee.
