An Arab Physicians’ Association has been formed here. Field Marshal Lord Plumer, the High Commissioner for Palestine, has become patron of the Association.
A drive for $250,000 for the erection of a new Jewish center in Jamaica, L. I., was launched at a dinner Sunday night.
Supreme Court Justice Mitchell May and Maurice E. Connolly, Borough President of Queens, addressed the gathering. Benjamin Marvin, chairman of the campaign committee, was toastmaster.
The Women’s Auxiliary of the Jamatca Jewish Center, through their president, Mrs. Sophie Moss, who is the head of the women’s division of the campaign, has already pledged $10,000 to the campaign and have turned over $5,000 of this pledge as the first donation of the drive.
The Jamaica Chapter of the Jewish Women’s Council, has pledged a like amount and other pledges have been received from various organizations, it is said.
The building will be erected on the site of the present center, which is inadequate. With dimensions 160 feet by 100 feet, the structure will contain a gymnasium, swimming pool, bowling alleys, library, auditorium, class rooms and lounging rooms. Membership will be open to persons not members of the congregation.
