A sum exceeding $100,000 will be required to repair the damage suffered by Jews in Zionist settlements in Palestine as a result of the eartquake, a report received yesterday by the Unitd Palestine Appeal headquarters from the Palestine Zionist Executive in Jerusalem indicates.
C. Q. Kenriques, engineer of the Palestine Executive, who prepared this report, declares the Markenhof Co-operative Agricultural Group, near Dagania, to be the heaviest sufferer. This group is composed of trained agriculturists from Germany whose buildings were nearly demolished as a result of the earthquake. Mr. Hen riques estimates the cost of building dwellings for the 25 families of this group to be $17,500.
Among the other larger buildings in the Jewish colonies condemned as a result of the earthquake is the general building of Dagania B. the Palestine Foundation Fund settlement established in 1922. The rebuilding of Dagania B. structures will cost $15,000. according to the report.
Among the historic buildings that will have to be reconstructed are the synagogue in the Bokharian quarter in Jerusalem and the synagogue in Tiberias. Mr. Henriques’ estimated figure of $100,000 includes the reconstruction of these synagogues as well as finding new sceomodations for the 150 families in Jerusalem and the 60 or more families in Tiberias, who have had to evacuate their homes as a result of the earthquake.
