Afred Blum, an American Jew, has established three annual prizes of 10,000 francs each at the University of Nancy, to be distributed within three years. One prize is to go to a professor in the faculty of science, one in the Institute of Chemistry and one in the faculty of Medicine.
Mr. Blum, of Alsatian origin, was a student at the School of Chemistry in Mulhouse. He is President of the Federation of Alsatians and Lorrainers in the United States, President of the Executive Committee of the Alliance Francaise and vice-president of the French Chamber of Commerce in New York.
Through Mr. Blum’s gift, several teachers at the University of Lorraine will be able to devote themselves to scientific research.
