Register Chicago Students After Yom Kippur

In response to a letter from Dr. Gerson B. Levi, president of the Chicago Rabbinical Association, Dr. C. S. Boucher, Dean of the Colleges, University of Chicago, explained the arrangements made for all Freshman Jewish students entering the University to enroll other than on the opening day, September 24, which was the Day of Atonement.

Each Freshman is given an individual engagement card, Dr. Boucher explained, for enrollment during Freshman week. This engagement is set for a specific hour for each Freshman for registration, physical examination, library instruction and a tour of the University. Through the efforts of the college, all Jewish students were given engagements on other days than the first day of Freshman week, which enabled them to come to the University the day after Yom Kippur.

The Dean further explained, however, that an opening session for Freshman was held on Monday morning when the engagement cards were distributed. The Jewish students were enabled to secure their engagement cards on Tuesday morning, although Dean Boucher added that general information is given out at the opening session and “if he misses the opening session he will miss something of value.”

FUR CHARITY CHEST VOTES $2,500 FOR HURRICANE RELIEF

In response to the call of the Red Cross the Board of Directors of the Charity Chest of the Fur Industry of the City of New York at a special meeting passed a resolution appropriating the sum of $2,500 for the relief of the hurricane sufferers in the stricken areas.
