The Ministry of the Interior, to the surprise of many who remember the anti-Semitic excesses which accompanied this occasion in previous years, has granted permission to the students organizations to observe their annual Students’ Day on Monday, December 10.
The day is usually observed by the Roumanian students with public demonstrations. It was declared that prior to the granting of permission the government obtained personal guarantees from the leaders of the student organizations that order will be absolutely observed and that anti-Semitic slogans will be eliminated. On the other hand it was declared that the student leaders have accepted this condition under compulsion. Simultaneously, an appeal to the student body was issued in conformity with the undertaking given to the government. The authorities have taken extensive measures to guard order on Monday.
Upon receipt of reports that the students of the Academy of Commerce are planning anti-Semitic outbreaks, Minister of Commerce Madgearu issued a statement warning them that the government is determined to prevent any outbreaks.
