Continuous prayers for the speedy recovery of King George of England were ordered by the Munkaczer Rebbe, Chassidic leader. In instituting the prayers, the Chassidic Rabbi stated that the King, by virtue of Great Britain’s Mandate over Palestine, is “the patron and protector of Eretz Israel.” The action was taken, it was stated, as the result of a telegraphic request from a London rabbinical body.
