A change in Hungarian-Jewish relations was noticeable when the metropolitan press listed a number of contributions to Jewish welfare causes by leaders of Hungarian society.
The newspapers report the contribution by the wife of Admiral Horthy. Regent of Hungary, of 800 Pengoes to aid poor Jewish women. Government member Vass provided a fund to purchase 20 suits and pairs of shoes for poor Jewish children. Bishop Balthazar contributed 100 Pengoes for the distribution of prizes among the best pupils in the Jewish high school of Debreczyn.
