The progress of Jewish land settlement in South Africa was reported to the meeting of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies by S. Rapphaely, president of the board.
Four hundred Jewish farmers on the High Veld had made a success of farming. There were now two Jewish land settlements in Australia, which had a smaller community than South Africa, and they were doing well. The chairman made a statement on the position in Cape Town, which he had recently visited, pointing out the importance of the links between Cape Town and Johannesburg being strengthened. For that reason, he suggested that the next Board Congress should be held in Cape Town.
B. Friede, chairman of the Jewish Employment Bureau, said that the committee would shortly be meeting the Jewish farmers and discuss matters with them. It was an unfortunate fact, he said, that they had large numbers of applicants as office and shop assistants, but very few for industrial occupations.
