The decision of the Austrian administrative court against the contention of Dr. Segal aroused considerable interest, here as a similar situation exists in certain parts of the City of London.

Based on a seventeenth century law which provides that “Jews and Turics” are compelled to pay taxes to maintain vicarages, many Jews pay a tax. sometimes amounting to hundreds of pounds to the vicarages. The money is used for altar decorations, church renovations and the like.
