President of the New York City Board of Aldermen McKee, stated to a delegation from the Bronx: “I know the feelings that must have surged in the breasts of these men and women as they filed through the City Hall Park today. Yet, it was the most orderly demonstration that I have ever witnessed. Nothing, to my mind, is more horrible than the wanton and inexcusable attack that has been made upon your co-religionists. You should carry your protest through every municipal and state agency you can enlist, right to Washington. It is the duty of the government of the United States to take immediate steps to protect its citizens, and drastic measures should be invoked by Federal authority to stop these outrages without delay.”
