French Take Drastic Steps to Prevent Arab Outbreaks in Syria

The British Consulate here, the Anglo-Bank and the Jewish quarter were guarded heavily by French troops and tanks as pan-Arabic agitation again assumed serious proportions throughout Syria. Since two days ago Beirut is closed to all comers. Huge manifestations were planned for Friday with the participation of Arab delegations from Damascus, Aleppo, Tripoli, Homs and Hama. The authorities decided to prohibit the manifestations and have taken precautions to prevent the outbreak of trouble.
