Sixty Jewish children were orphaned in the recent disaster, according to an estimate furnished by Miss Sofphia Berger Mohl, who has undertaken the care of the orphans in behalf of the relief committee of the Zionist Executive. Only children of fifteen or under are included in this number, of whom 43 are fatherless and 17 full orphans. There are 23 widows.
In Hebron alone there are 29 orphans. 13 in Safed, 11 in Jerusalem, 4 in Beertuvia and 3 in Tel Aviv.
Without exception the widowed mothers wish to keep their children, some not asking support for themselves or the children other than the

(Continued from Page 1) compensation which they hope to receive from the government. Some ask suitable employment such as kindergarten teaching, nursing. etc.
Orphanages in Jerusalem as well as the children’s villages have offered to accept the orphans who in some instances have expressed preference for certain villages. Several children are still in the hospital. Some have been mentally affected by the horrors they suffered during the riots. Each case is receiving individual attention.
It is estimated that £18,000 will be required for the complete care of these 60 children and the 23 widows until the very youngest becomes self-supporting. The question of safeguarding the interest of the children with regard to compensation is under urgent consideration.
