A threat that Transjordanian Arabs may join their Palestine brethren in a “revolt which will be worse than the Syrian,” was contained in a memorandum sent to Sir John Chancellor, High Commissioner of Palestine, by Emir Abdullah, ruler of Transjordania, protesting against the Zionist aims in Palestine.
The memorandum voices protest against the resolutions adopted at the Zionist Congress in Zurich and against what the Emir calls “the attempt of the Jews to conquer the Wailing Wall and infringe on other Arab rights.”
The memorandum states: “Any infringement on the status quo of the Wailing Wall will cause a new outbreak in Palestine which Transjordania may join. The Palestine revolt will be worse than the Syrian because to the national motives religious ones will be added.”
The Emir demands the immediate formation of a reserve force of Arab legions because “with the latter alone he is unable to guarantee peace in Transjordania now since the Transjordanian frontier force has been transferred to Palestine.”
