George Gershwin, one of the outstanding composers of modern jazz music in America, known especially for his “Rhapsody in Blue” and “Americans in Paris,” is to write an opera based principally on S. Ansky’s “The Dybbuk.” It is expected that Mr. Gershwin will write the opera to be produced at the Metropolitan Opera House.
Mr. Gershwin stated that he had not definitely decided on the writing of the ###era but if he did, he would probably choose “The Dybbuk.” The drama, played throughout Europe, was produced in New York in the last few years in Hebrew, Yiddish and English, attracting a wide audience and receiving highest acclaim from the critics.
