Seattle (Apr. 8)
Leo Schwabacher, prominent Jewish leader and philanthropist and one of the Jewish pioneers of the West, died on Sunday. The Schwabacher family is one of the most prominent Jewish families on the Pacific Coast.
At the beginning of the World War, when the Hias established a branch in Seattle to take care of the stream of Jewish war refugees that was coming to Seattle from China and Japan, Mr. Schwabacher became president of the Seattle Hias and did yeoman work in rendering aid to thousands of homeless Jews.
