An appeal to the conscience of the Democrats of Germany not to permit the desecration of their souls through the anti-Semitic prayers recently introduced into the schools of Thuringia by the Minister of the Interior, Dr. Frick, has been issued by the “Frankfurter Zeitung.”
The “Frankfurter Zeitung” points out that “the children in their very first religious lesson are taught that God gave the Jewish people the Holy Scriptures and that the Saviour’s mother was a Jewess. Then they are immediately made to utter prayers filled with anti-Jewish hatred. This discord is poisoning the souls of the children. The Reich government should not permit Jews who live and die for Germany to be branded in this manner.”
Prayers directed against “aliens to our race, the Jews who demoralize the German people,” were introduced into the school prayers of Thuringia last week. When Dr. Frick was asked about them he replied that they were directed against the Jews. The Socialists in the Thuringian parliament have declared that the anti-Semitic prayers were contrary to the Reich’s constitution and that the Reich government should prohibit them.
