A Jewish girl, whose father is a local clothier, through her own achievements and ability, has attained the honor coveted by every ambitious singer—she has just signed with the Metropolitan Opera in New York to sing in a number of leading operatic roles next season.

Miss Belkin, who is 24 years of age, came to New York six years ago. She was obliged to work as a salesgirl in department stores while she studied music. In the meantime, on Sunday mornings, she sang at Temple Emanu-El. At present she is one of “Roxy’s Gang” and will continue to sing at the Roxy Theatre until she enters the Metropolitan next season.

Last fall she gave two concerts in Berlin and Amsterdam, in both of which cities she was given a great ovation. In her Berlin debut she is said to have received sixteen re-calls. Critics enthusiastic in their praise proclaim that she will soon be numbered along with Alma Gluck and Rosa Raisa as a great Jewish operatic star.
