Dr. Claude G. Montefiore, famous British-Jewish scholar and leader of Liberal Judaism in England, has been awarded the British Academy medal for Biblical studies. The medal was awarded to Dr. Montefiore in appreciation of his lectures and writings. The “Hibbert Lectures” which he gave in 1892 and two of his books, “Judaism and St. Paul” (1914) and “Commentary on the Synoptic Gospels” (second edition, 1927) were especially mentioned. In awarding Dr. Montefiore the medal, the British Academy declared that his writings and lectures have tended towards the elucidation of the Rabbinical religion and its relation both to the Old and to the New Testament.
