District Attorney George Brower of Brooklyn announced that, complying with the request by Commissioner of Accounts Higgins, he will begin a grand jury hearing concerning the charges of Brooklyn kosher butchers that they had been forced to pay graft to officials of the Department of Markets. Mr. Brower definitely declared that the butchers who testify before the grand jury will not be subjected to any punishment for having given graft.
At the same time, Mr. Higgins expressed the opinion that although the district attorney is willing to grant the butchers immunity, that is really not necessary, because such witnesses are not subjected to punishment anyhow.
