Seven Jews are among the fifty-nine men designated by former Ambassador to Germany, James W. Gerard, as men who “rule” America “by virtue of their ability.” These men do not themselves hold public office, the former Ambassador explained, but they “determine who shall hold such office.”
The list was compiled after Mr. Gerard was asked concerning a pamphlet published by him in which he said that the forty men who rule this country could make the British Empire the greatest power in the world in ten years, with a high protective tariff. He later increased the number of “rulers” by nineteen.
Jews included in Mr. Gerard’s list are H. M. Warner, president of Warner Brothers Pictures; Adolph Zukor, president of Paramount-Publix Corporation; Daniel Guggenheim and William Loeb, financiers; Adolph Ochs, publisher of the New York “Times”; Julius Rosenwald, president of Sears, Roebuck and Company, and Gerard Swope, president of the General Electric Company.
