The Zionist Actions Committee is not what it used to be because its decisions are no longer final, Rabbi Meyer Berlin, head of the Mizrachi, Orthodox Zionist Party, member of the Actions Committee and of the newly elected Executive of the Jewish Agency, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today just before he sailed for the United States. He is going to America on business not connected with the Actions Committee but of a private nature and plans to remain there until after the High Holidays.
Replying to a question about his impressions of the Actions Committee’s meeting which ended its sessions here last week, Rabbi Berlin said, “The sessions were good because they were of a serious character,” but he expressed regret that “the present Actions Committee is not what it was because its decisions are no longer final.”
Referring to the threat by the Mizrachi to quit the Zionist Executive as a result of Dr. Chaim Weizmann’s statement that Palestine must become a binational state and that the aim of the Zionists was not a Jewish State but an autonomous Jewish unit. Rabbi Berlin said that the Mizrachi was not seeking to create a crisis but merely wanted to clarify its attitude in order to avoid a breakdown in Zionist leadership.
