The forthcoming statement of the British government on its future policy in Palestine will be a reaffirmation of the Balfour Declaration and the terms of the Palestine Mandate both in letter and spirit, the Daily Herald, Labor Party organ, writes in connection with the report of Sir John Simpson which is to be published today.
The government’s statement will reiterate its determination to carry out the Mandate at all costs, the Daily Herald says. Big plans will be announced which the Palestine authorities will carry out for land development and irrigation designed to benefit Jews and Arabs and enable the population of Palestine to increase, the Herald adds. The statement will also outline schemes for the future government of the country which will be based on a determination to preserve the rights of the Jews while safe-guarding those of the Arabs.
