Transjordania will not be affected by the new Palestine land inquiry in connection with the Palestine development scheme, Dr. Drummond Shiels, under-secretary of state for the Colonies, informed the House of Commons today in response to an inquiry from Commander Kenworthy, Labor member.
Commander Kenworthy had asked whether the new inquiry into the possibilities of land settlement and cultivation in Palestine would extend to unoccupied or uncultivated lands beyond the Jordan River. Dr. Shiels answered this question with an emphatic no, explaining that Transjordania is under a different administrative system.
Yesterday the Manchester Guardian criticized the Palestine development scheme and urged the British government to solve the Palestine land problem by including Tranjordania within the boundaries of Palestine land settlement.
