Starving Unemployed Were Incensed by Seeing Jews Dressed in Holiday Finery Says Deputy Goebbels in H

The police have closed down for a week the “Angriff”, the Hitlerist daily in Berlin, which is edited by Deputy Goebbels, for publishing a cartoon showing Jewish heads rolling in the ground before the Hitlerist hurricane.

The Central Union of German Citizens of Jewish faith draws attention to an attempt made by Deputy Goebbels in the “Angriff” to justify what happened on Rosh Hashanah by saying that the unemployed going about starving were incited by seeing Jews dressed in holiday finery.

In another part of the paper, the Central Union points out, he tells a different story, however, alleging that Hitlerists were attacked in the Kurfuerstendamm by Communists, and that other Hitlerists rushed up to defend their comrades.

This story is absolutely untrue, the Central Union says. Everyone who was in the Kurfuerstendamm and saw what was going on, saw how the Hitlerists started the attack, how obbiously pre-arranged signals brought up additional Hitlerist troops, and how the whole attack was engineered in a concerted and organised manner. We say without the slightest hesitation that there was no question whatever of protecting Hitlerists who were being attacked, but that it was a systematic and well-planned and organised attack upon Jews.
