The position of the Jewish unemployed in Montreal is worse than that of the unemployed of other denominations, the speakers at the opening to-day of the Montreal Jewish soup kitchen declared. The soup kitchen, which will feed 300 unemployed daily, has been established by the Jewish labour organisations of Montreal.
The Jewish Aldermen of Montreal, Joseph Schubert, Berl Schwartz, and Max Seigler, said that Jewish unemployed stand very little chance of receiving employment in the various civic relief projects because the municipal authorities do not look with favour on the employment of Jews.
Other speakers protested that even Jewish firms discriminate against Jewish labour.
