The Agudist block in the Warsaw Jewish Community, which, with the support of the Folkists and other small parties, is in control of the Community, has decided, according to press reports, to nominate Deputy Itche Meir Lewin, the President of the Rolish Agudah, to be Chief Rabbi of the Warsaw Jewish Community.
It was recently reported that the Agudists were contemplating inviting Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzenski, the famous Gaon of Vilna to come to Warsaw to take up the position.
Deputy Lewin, who is now on his way to Palestine with the Gerer Rebbe, who is his father-in-law, is one of the leaders of the Agudath Israel World Organisation.
The Agudist block in the Warsaw Jewish Community is also credited by the press with the intention of appointing ten new Rabbis in the various districts of the city of Warsaw, as well as 25 assistant Rabbis.
Negotiations in this connection with the Government are in progress, it is stated, and the matter is expected to be settled as soon as the Gerer Rebbe and Deputy Lewin return from Palestine.
