The teaching of the Protestant religion will be made compulsory in the State of Anhalt, where the Hitlerists were returned at the recent elections as the largest Party in the new State Parliament, it was announced to-day when the new Anhalt Parliament was opened.

The first action to be taken by the new Anhalt Government, it was stated, will be to abolish separate religious-education in the State schools, and to introduce uniform compulsory teaching of the Protestant religion for all children attending the State schools.

Not only Jews, but also Catholics and freethinkers, who constitute a large proportion of the Social Democratic Party, will be affected by the measure, and are preparing to oppose it.
