A stone boulder with a tablet, erected here in memory of Mortimer L. Schiff, prominent Jewish philanthropist, who was president of the Boy Scouts of America, was unveiled yesterday at Camp Wauepex.

Cancellation of the $40,000 mortgage on the local camp site was presented by John M. Schiff, son of the late philanthropist, to Carl Stedman Brown, president of the Nassau Council.

Mr. Schiff stated that one of the last wishes expressed by his mother before her death was that the mortgage assumed by the Schiff family be cancelled.

The inscription on the tablet declares: “Erected by the Boy Scouts of Nassau County in memory of Mortimer L. Schiff, whose wise council and generous gifts so greatly aided them in securing for their permanent camp, Wauepex. President of Boy Scouts of America May 6 to June 1931; director of Nassau Council January 1, 1920 to February 3. 1930.”
