The president of the Union of German Actors and Theatrical Workers has issued an appeal to the public to aid it in its fight against the Nazi agitation to clear Jews and foreigners out of the theatres.
The Nazi motion, introduced in the Prussian Diet, calling for a boycott against Jewish or foreign actors and theatrical directors, producers and others, has been promptly carried into effect, generally under some pretext, it is pointed out.
The Nazi press is continuing its agitation with a fury that amounts to moral terrorization of theatrical workers, he said.
“Unfortunately, though the Nazis are showing such activity,” complains the Union head, “the press of the Democratic Left Parties is curiously silent about the matter. In the interest of our Jewish members, also in the interest of theatrical art, which must suffer when party politics are introduced, where the only consideration should be artistic abilities, we appeal for help in our fight against the Nazi efforts,” he concludes.
