Czech Health Resort Prohibits Schechita

Schechita was prohibited today by the municipality of Eger, a health resort in Czechoslovakia, by order of the municipality.

All animals must be stunned before slaughtering, the municipality ruled, adding that it understands that this is not contrary to Jewish tradition.

David Graubart, rabbi of Beth Israel synagogue, Rock Island, Ill., will become rabbi of Tifereth Israel Community Synagogue of Des Moines, Iowa, on October 1st. He will succeed Rabbi Lewis Grossman.

Rabbi Samuel Segal, a graduate of the Jewish Institute of Religion, Class of 1932, has been appointed Social Director of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, New York, and Leader of its Junior Congregation.
