Members of the declassed groups in Soviet Russia may not be elected as wardens of synagogues, says the official bulletin on religious matters issued by the Central Committee of the Wzik.
The bulletin states that every religious community must have three authorized juridical representatives. In the past since the wardens were considered servants of religion and ipso facto declassed, few desired to assume such office.
In some circles the new ruling is interpreted as meaning that those who accept the office of wardens will not lose their rights.
