Principals in all the public schools of the city have been instructed by the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. William O’Shea not to conduct Christmas programs in their schools which will in any way prove offensive to the non-Christian students.

Failure to observe these instructions which are part of the State Education Law will render the principals subject to disciplinary action.

This information was imparted by Dr. O’Shea to Rabbi B. Leon Hurwitz, who visited the former as a Committee of one representing the Committee on Good Will of the Rabbinical Assembly of the Theological Seminary of America. Rabbi Hurwitz was accompanied by Dr. I. David Cohen, president of the Jewish Teachers Association of the Public Schools. Rabbi Hurwitz informed Dr. O’Shea that there have been violations of the law in the past. The latter asked that violations be reported to him.
