Premier Taschereau yesterday presented for its first reading a bill designed to amend the civil code to permit a judge to issue an injunction against publications guilty of repeated defamation and libel.
The bill is aimed particularly at the Goglu publications which have carried on a relentless campaign against the Jewish population of the country.
A debate on the measure will be held shortly, it is anticipated.
The bill introduced yesterday fulfils a pledge made by Premier Taschereau after Justice Desaulniers had ruled that he was unable, under the present law, to issue an injunction against the Goglu publications, whose virulent attacks he severely condemned.
The denunciation of the Goglu publications was concurred in by Premier Taschereau who promised measures to curb anti-Jewish incitement.
