One hundred and fifty thousand Jews from all parts of the United States are expected to come here for “Jewish Day” at the Century of Progress Exposition on July 3, according to an announcement by Meyer W. Weisgal, Executive Director of Jewish Day, who has enlisted the cooperation of Jewish leaders throughout the nation for a series of events, of which the climax on July 3 is to be a pageant, requiring the participation of 3,000 actors. The pageant is to be staged at Soldier’s Field.
Technical designs for the stage, which will accommodate 3,000 persons at one time, are being drawn up under the direction of Isaac Van Grover, conductor of the Chicago Civic Opera Company, who is supervising the production of the pageant called. “Romance of a People.”
On July 4, Chicago is also to be host to Jewish leaders of America when it tenders a dinner in honor of Dr. Chaim Weizmann, former president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, who will come to the United States specially for the purpose of attending the banquet, at which a large sum is to be presented to him for the acceleration of Jewish reconstruction activities in Palestine.
