The Voelkischer Beobachter reveals today that ten thousand hundredweight of books, including two thousand Jewish and Marxist works, have already been collected for burning and repulping. The search for “undesirable” publications is still continuing, all houses, including cellars, are being searched for libraries hidden by their owners because of the value of the books.

Even the files of the Rheinische Zeitung, for the years of 1848 and 1849 have been confiscated because Karl Marx edited the paper in those years. They will not be destroyed, however, because of their historical value.

One printing shop, the Hitler organ reports, claimed damages of 85,000 marks for confiscated books, but the claim was rejected because the police acted within their rights and in accordance with government decrees.
