Today’s leading article in the Voelkischer Beobachter, personal organ of Chancellor Hitler and leading Nazi paper, features a sharp attack on the Central Verein (the Central Union of German Citizens of Jewish Faith) and a vitriolic attack on the group headed by Dr. Max Naumann which has been attempting to ingratiate itself with the Nazis by condemning the other German Jews and expressing a desire to support the Nazi regime. The Beobachter called both groups “despicable and pathologic.”

At the same time the Nazi paper expressed a favorable attitude toward Zionism, describing the Zionist parties and their tendencies and forecasting the return of Dr. Chaim Weizmann to the presidency of the World Zionist Organization. The Beobachter compared the National Zionist movement with the German Citizens of the Jewish Faith, which term, the Nazi paper claimed, is misleading to all.

Both the Central Verein and the Naumann group have been strong in their claim to being true Germans and vying with the Nazis in denouncing protests made by Jews outside Germany against the Nazi government.
