The Jewish community of Boston is responding patriotically to the Government appeal in behalf of the NRA. The Dorchester – Mattapan community, perhaps the largest in greater Boston, is actively preparing an intensive campaign under the leadership of Charles Shulman.
Among those designated as officers of the NRA campaign are former Representatives Bernard Finkelstein, Isidore H. Fox and Bernard Ginsburg; David Lasker, assistant dis### attorney; Representative Hyman Manevitch; Miss Ruth Mugglebee, writer; Robert Robinson, former assistant district attorney; Israel Ruby; Judge Sadie Lipner Shulman, of the Municipal Court of Dorchester; Representative Julius H. Soble; Elihu D. Stone, assistant United States district attorney, and Max Ulin, former state senator. Israel Kolikoff, commander of the Herbert J. Wolf Post, is secretary.
The Chelsea Jewish community numbering 18,000 Jews out of the population of 40,000 has been very actively engaged in putting over the NRA campaign. The Jewish leader of NRA activities in this community is Hyman Kaplan, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. Chelsea activities have come to the attention of the general public and have been cited in the general daily press. Under Mr. Kaplan’s close scrutiny, a committee carefully investigates all industries and concerns disobeying the codes. His committee consists of Frances Tyrrel, Morris Stone, Sergeant Valentine, P. Elmore and Sam Sandburg. Miss Etta Klein is secretary.
