A women’s division, composed of Christians and Jews, has been formed to stimulate the interest of New York women in the spectacular Jewish pageant, “The Romance of a People”, that is to be presented at the Polo Grounds September 14 to raise funds for the settlement of German Jews in Palestine, according to an announcement by Mrs. Abram I. Elkus, wife of the former ambassador to Turkey, who has accepted the chairmanship of the women’s division, at the request of Nathan Straus, Jr., general chairman, and Governor Herbert H. Lehman and Samuel Untermyer, honorary chairmen.
Among those who are associated with Mrs. Elkus in the formation of the committee are Mrs. Sidney C. Borg, Mrs. Charles S. Guggenheimer, Mrs. William De Young Kay, Lillian Wald, Susan Brandeis, Fannie Hurst, Mrs. Theresa Grunsfeld, Mrs. Carrie Fuld, Mrs. Felix M. Warburg, Mrs. L. V. Weil, Mrs. Henry Goddard Leach, Mrs. Henry Van Kleek Gilmore and Mrs. Grace Sloan Overton.
