The rumor that the Czechoslovakian government will bring the question of the Jews in Germany before the Council of the League of Nations now in session at Geneva, was much commented upon in this morning’s German press, some papers asserting that the Upper Silesian question will also be raised at the Council meeting. The Munich edition of the Voelkischer Beobachter, leading Nazi paper and personal organ of Adolf Hitler, devotes a special article to the subject, forecasting the possibility that a suggestion will be made that the League declare the German Jews a national minority.
The Beobachter asserts that such a step will not do the German Jews any good and hints that if the Jews become a national minority, they will be compelled to speak Hebrew only.
Furthermore, the proposal about the Jewish national minority status, the Beobachter declares, does not come from the Jewish side, but is the result of manipulation by various governments, “aiming to put the Jewish question in Germany under international control.”
